Built by IBM
The entire TechCity campus was designed and built by the IBM Corporation, from 1956 to 1993, to a level of quality that far exceeds most contemporary standards.
Originally used for the manufacture of Sage mainframes, the complex evolved to become a major IBM mainframe computer research, development and testing facility. In the mid-1990s, shifts in IBM's business focus and structure made its Kingston facility redundant, and TechCity was born: a vast, multi-purpose, technology-industrial complex, built and maintained to meet IBM's demand for world-class quality, flexibility, and convenience.
World Class
The site was built with premium construction design and materials. IBM built a huge redundant, high-capacity mission critical electrical power infrastructure. The site has a high-volume supply of pure water from the Catskill Mountains and huge campus chiller capacity. IBM built a large scalable communications infrastructure. To this, TechCity added comprehensive 24-hour security and maintenance.
