FiberOptic
Reliable Fiber Optic connectivity is available here at TechCity. We have two primary vendors that can provide fiberoptic connectivity to a tenant. Taken seperately, both vendors offer a suite of services for large tenants. Taken together, these worldclass providers can provide high capacity fiber optic connections with diversified redundant paths for major business applications. The two vendors are Hudson Valley DataNet, a highly regarded regional fiber provider/utility and Verizon, the local RBOC. Whether your fiber optic needs are local, regional, national or global in scope, your connectivity is assured here at TechCity.
In addition to these fiber providers, long haul dark and lit fiber runs adjacent to both the east and west property lines of TechCity. On the west property line runs the New York Thruway, and engineering plans have been approved to bring the long haul fiber into the facility. On the east edge of the property lies the CSX railroad line and there are additional long haul fibers there that can be brought into the facility. In short, we have many options for fiber connectivity.
Customers that have offices elsewhere with access to fiber can maintain a backup Datacenter here at TechCity and/or use sophisticated storage area network technology from CISCO or EMC to write real time data in two places at the same time. With today's volumes of daily financial transactions, this technology is critical for major financial transaction institutions. We recommend having your backup Datacenter, or disaster recovery site, and data stored far enough away to be safe from man made and natural disasters. This MEANS farther away then New Jersey or Wappinger Falls if your business is based in Manhattan. ASSURED Business Continuity is critical in today's global economy where seconds count.
TechCity is principly served by fiberoptic cable from Hudson Valley DataNet, a highly regarded regional fiber provider/utility. This fiber, which is lit and unlit, can be cross connected to long haul fiber networks in New York City and national/global carriers for global corporate telecommunication networks. Some of this on premise fiber is lit with OC-192 (10 Gigabit) and OC-48 (2.4 Gigabit) speeds in redundant SONET rings or Gigabit Metro Ethernet fabrics. It can be stepped down and cross connected to TechCity campus fiber if required. Hudson Valley can also provide fiber to a building on campus from their central demark here in TechCity. DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing) Wavelength services are available for short and long haul applications to the major fiber global connection locations in Manhattan, like 111 8th Avenue, 32 Ave of the Americas and 60 Hudson Street. Hudson Valley DataNet is profitable, conservatively managed, well funded, and provides services to customers like IBM and state agencies here in New York. See the links on right side of this page.
Verizon's (fomerly Bell Atlantic) central office is located on the periphery of the campus (you can walk to it). Large volumes of data can be handled by the RBOC fiber infrastructure that feeds the campus. Verizon, as another TechCity fiber provider, is available if your business needs require a redundant diversified fiber path architecture. By purchasing fiber from both Hudson Valley DataNet and Verizon, mission critical financial applications are assured that an unlikely fiber cut by a random backhoe event won't interrupt critical computer and network functions. Current hot failover technology can immediately detect severed network connections, and redistribute the data to a secondary path. Dedicated Verizon personnel are available to assure maximum reliability for critical call center applications such as 911 or financial applications.
Tenants that require triple redundant fiber path architectures or want to have their existing fiber carrier provide connectivity will have to connect to any of the long haul fiber providers that have fiber right-of-ways along the New York Thruway which borders the property. The Thruway runs North to Albany and South to New York City. This may require laying fiber across the TechCity property at the tenant's expense or as part of the lease. There are also DWDM long haul fibers under the adjacent CSX rail lines that can be teminated into TechCity and then cross connected into a customer's premise if required.
